Chapman Honors Troops Returning From Iraq

One day after the United States Marines Corps celebrates the "leathernecks" birthday on November 10, Judith Chapman (Gloria), who is the daughter of a retired Air Force General, will honor the U.S. Marines and their spouses for Veterans Day with a gourmet meal at St. James Restaurant in Palm Springs. The Marines are stationed nearby at Twentynine Palms. Their meal begins at 6:30pm and will be served by candlelight. The couples can bask in the restaurant's exotic atmosphere.

"We wanted to do something special for some of the young people returning from Iraq, and their spouses who have endured the pain of separation from their loved one," said St. James, the restaurant's owner and a celebrated chef who has received rave reviews from such publications as The New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, Bon Apetit and other newspapers and magazines.

Event co-host Judith added, "We know there will be other events for our veterans, parades and such, but we wanted to express our admiration through the best way we know how, by simply preparing a special meal of delicious food and hospitality our Marine Corps guests will remember for a long time."

St. James at the Vineyard is located at 265 South Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, California.

UPDATE!

November 13, 2006-

Judging from the outpouring of goodwill, which came in many forms at St.James Restaurant Saturday night, all Americans do "Support the Troops." St. James and Judith Chapman hosted and evening of food and fun for a group of returning Iraqi vets and their spouses in appreciation of their service on this Veterans Day.

"We were so moved by the generosity of others, several diners bought bottles of champagne for the group, children were introduced to the soldiers, and one anoymous former marine insisted on giving us money to help with our costs," recalls Chapman. "Still another former Marine brought in envelopes with a special gift for each Marine, also preferring to remain anonymous. I still get goose bumps when I think of it." At the end of the evening James was presented with a Marine coin by the group, and everyone in the place applauded and cheered these very special young men and women. "A night we won't soon forget at St. James," say staff and patrons alike. SEMPER FI.!!! ;-)
