J.T. fell out of favor with his fellow conspirator Brittany Hodges after he let Mackenzie Browning know that Britt hadn't really slept with Mac's ex-beau Billy. J.T. fell for Mac only to lose her to Billy. After flirting with Rianna Miner, J.T. took up with Colleen Carlton, who, despite being younger than J.T., tutored the remedial student. Colleen's family forbade her to see J.T, but they came around after J.T. saved Colleen who'd been trapped in a freezer at Gina's restaurant as it was set on fire by arsonist Kevin Fisher.

Colleen encouraged J.T. to pursue his music career with the help of Shiloh, a savvy music manager who spotted J.T.'s talent while visiting Genoa City. J.T. broke Colleen's heart when he claimed that he was single in order to build his image as a music heartthrob. His blossoming music career ended abruptly and he returned home where he re-connected with Mac. Their relationship hit a snag when J.T. lied that he was the father of Brittany's baby so that some mobsters, who were after Britt's husband Bobby (the baby's true father), would leave her alone.

J.T. and Mac's relationship ended after he learned that she chose to not tell him that she was carrying his baby and her subsequent miscarriage. Waiting in the wings was a more manipulative Colleen, having returned to town, ready to resume her relationship with her former beau. J.T. welcomed Colleen into his loft as a roommate, but their chemistry soon led them back into a romantic relationship, and they made love for the first time.

At Victor's behest, J.T. helped Paul to investigate Brad's mysterious past, which led to his being kidnapped by Brad's dangerous enemies. J.T. was eventually released and helped Brad defeat the enemies from his past who had killed his family. But Brad had more secrets that threatened to blow the family apart. Namely, an affair with Sharon Newman. At the same time, Nick Newman's plane went down and he was presumed to be dead. Soon the aftermath was more than Victoria could bare and she filed for divorce.

Meanwhile, Colleen revealed her feelings for her college Professor, Adrian Korbel, causing J.T. to kick her out of the loft. Victoria turned to the only person she could trust besides her brother Nick-- J.T.! They sought comfort in each others arms and soon shared a bed. It wasn't long before Victoria found out that she was pregnant. Nick was discovered alive and well but suffered a memory loss. Phyllis Summers faced charges of extortion after Brad and Sharon's tryst was splashed across the headlines. She was found guilty and is serving time in jail.

Sharon Newman moved on to marry Jack Abbott, becoming the perfect campaign wife. Brad still harbors feelings for Victoria's sister-in-law. J.T. found himself deeply in love with Victoria and asked her to marry him. Cane, the Chancellor heir, asked J.T. to investigate the Clear Springs project which has ties to the Chancellors, the Newmans, the Abbotts and Brad Carlton. While undercover, J.T. found some incriminating evidence of wrongdoing but not enough to find out who was behind it. Then the parking garage in Clear Springs collapsed trapping many Genoa City residents, including Victoria and her unborn baby. All were eventually rescued but Victoria's life and her unborn child hung in balance. They survived and baby Reed was born. J.T. and Victoria were married.
