Lorie, found a way to ruin her sister Leslie's happiness when Leslie confided that she was in love with Brad. Undermining that relationship became Lorie's goal. She took a job at The Chronicle and worked closely with Brad, using the proximity to feed him misinformation about how Leslie felt about him. Lorie led Brad to the conclusion that music was more important than any man to Leslie and that to try to win her would only impede her career. Lorie also made Leslie believe that Brad was losing interest in her.
Meanwhile, Jill Foster was immersed in her rich surroundings. Kay was good to her new paid companion and trusted her, too. Jill was fairly understanding of Kay's drunken mood swings and realized the woman was very unhappy. She was rich, but her marriage was a sham.
Jill and Phillip Chancellor became closer through Kay, each helping the other deal with her alcoholic outbursts. The two fought their growing attraction for each other, but soon, their mutual attraction was undeniable. It didn't matter they were from different worlds. They fell in love but kept it a treasured secret.
When Brock Reynolds, Kay's son from a prior marriage, arrived at the Chancellor home, a new element was added to the mix. After living a fast lifestyle of drugs and sex, he wanted to help his mother find herself, and God. The attractive young man, who had once spent plenty of party time with Lorie Brooks in Paris, had given up many bad habits, but still had an eye for woman and Jill's good looks and comparatively innocent nature caught his interest. She, on the other hand, wanted only Phillip.
