Josh Gracin Q&A

Country singer Josh Gracin stole hearts and votes on American Idol in Season 2 as the young marine who could carry a tune. His debut CD, Josh Gracin, went gold and his second release comes out this summer. He could easily kick back and spend time with his pregnant wife, Ann-Marie, and his two children in Michigan but he wanted to add another notch to his career belt…thespian! On June 29, Josh makes his acting debut opposite Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and Joshua Morrow (Nick) as a lonely cowboy trying to hit on Phyllis, who is stranded in a country bar. Fans will have to watch to find out how Nick saves Phyllis from the country boy looking for love.

We caught up with Josh after his Genoa City experience and got the full scoop!

YR_Sherrie : Did you watch soaps growing up?

Gracin : My mom was a big fan of Days of our Lives, Another World and The Young and the Restless. I used to dread getting sick and having to stay home because those were the only shows I was allowed to watch on the television. Then, I would find myself actually getting involved in the shows. That was about 10 or 15 years ago. There I was sitting next to my Mom watching the soaps.

YR_Sherrie : How was your Y&R experience?

Gracin : It was neat. I have done videos and acted in high school plays but I have never really acted on screen. The biggest thing that I was worried about was looking natural, like I wasn't trying to act. And Michelle was great person, real upbeat. The cool thing about is the way they wrote it is just a normal conversation. She says something and I just respond to it so it was real easy to do the scene.

YR_Sherrie : How did your acting debut come about?

Gracin : I told my manager that I wanted to do some acting. I started to do some work with music for movie soundtracks and I wanted to see if I could possibly be in the movie. Then this part came up. My management said that, logistically, I would be tired because last night was the ACM's (American Country Music Awards), and tomorrow I need to be in Florida. I am taking a red eye but I said 'yeah, I'd do it!' and I jumped all over it.

YR_Sherrie : Tell me about your character.

Gracin : He's just supposed to be a normal guy trying to pick up a girl in a bar. Unfortunately, I haven't had that experience because I have been with my wife for about 10 years now. We were high school sweethearts since I was sixteen so I have never had the experience of going to bar and trying to pick up somebody.

YR_Sherrie : Any surprises?

Gracin : I was surprised by just how nice everybody was, everybody that works on the stage, Michelle and Josh, which makes it real easy. Michelle helped me out, told me just to talk like I would normally and her personality makes it really easy.

YR_Sherrie : Would you like to do more acting?

Gracin : I would definitely like to do more acting. Country music and music will always be the priority, but if something comes along that's not going to take away from that, I would definitely like to do more acting.

YR_Sherrie : What's coming up next for you?

Gracin : We have a new album coming out July 25, the second one, All about Y'all. Hopefully we will be touring in the fall.
