Getting to Know Jamia...
Jamia Simone Nash (Ana) started singing at age 2, just months after she began speaking. Her parents, James and Charlene, are accomplished gospel singers so it runs in the family. Jamia's first brush with fame came at age 5 when she won the Apollo Kids Talent Search Competition at Atlanta's Gwinnett Place Mall, singing the Alicia Keys song, "Fallin". Later, on Good Morning America, Jamia sang a duet with Alicia Keys. Soon Nash's interest in entertainment expanded to acting and she began guest spots on shows such as Half & Half, 7th Heaven, My Wife and Kids. She played a young Fantasia in Life Is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story and gave a stand-out performance as Hope in August Rush which lead to her singing "Raise it Up" at the 2008 Academy Awards®.
We caught up with the young dynamo to find out about her latest gig as Devon's (Bryton) cousin Ana on The Young and the Restless. What are Jamia's plans for the future and just how well did she get along with the cast? Read on...
First day on the set…
"I have worked on many shows so the experience wasn't new to me but it was a very new cast for me to work with. Mr. Bryton and Miss Eva [Marcille] greeted me and then I met the rest of the cast on the set and they were all very nice."
How did you feel when you heard you were going to be on the show?
"I was very excited."
This was your first experience on a soap. What was it like?
"It is very different from working on primetime and movies because you have to wake up very, very early and be on the set. The pace is much quicker."
You are an actress and you sing. Do you prefer one over the other?
"I want to act and sing!"
Did you know anything about Kristoff St. John or Bryton were before you appeared on the show?
"No, I have never watched the show before but now that I am on the show I am getting more familiar with them."
You recently sang "It's Your Day" for Lily's Birthday, what was it like to work with the cast and the musical directors for the show?
"It was fun because the musical director was very nice and helped us out with the song and the cast was great."
You had the opportunity, at a very young age, to perform at the Oscars. What was that like?
"That was fun, seeing all the different stars and to see who was winning the awards for their work."
What kind of feedback did you receive after you performed?
"They said I did a very good job. Excellent work. Keep up the good work. That meant a lot."
Do you look forward to meeting the fans?
"I do look forward to meeting the fans of The Young and the Restless."
The fans look forward to meeting you as well. Thanks, Jamia!
