34 Years of Bliss and Unrest in Genoa City!
On Saturday, March 10, 2007- The cast and crew of The Young and the Restless gathered at the Sunset Beach Restaurant and Lounge in West Hollywood, CA, for a very special evening of dinner and dancing to celebrate the 34th anniversary of daytime's number one drama. It's hard to believe that on March 26, 1973, Bill and Lee Bell's family drama debuted to immediate success. It began with the Brooks and the Foster families and expanded to the Abbott, the Newman and the Winters families of today, not to mention their friends and neighbors that help layer the many loves, losses and downright messes that mark the storylines of late. In 1972, the late Bill Bell and his lovely wife Lee nurtured their baby soap in the famed Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California and found a home at CBS for their groundbreaking soap opera.
Over the years, fans have witnessed many heartbreaking dramas, such as the ahead-of-its-time rape drama of 19-year-old Chris Brooks, Katherine Chancellor's drinking problem and, later, her plastic surgery, Cricket's mother Jessica's struggle with AIDS, and more recently, the deaths of beloved characters Cassie Newman and John Abbott.
Classic soap storylines covered include back-from-the-dead scenerios (such as Sheila Carter), paternity issues (Daniel Romalotti, Lily Winters and Abby Carlton, to name a few), wrong-side-of-the-tracks residents (Jill Foster, Nikki Reed, Sharon Collins and Amber Moore, etc.) and how can we forget the soap divas (Nikki Newman, Phyllis Summers, Drucilla Winters and the Grand Dame of the all, Katherine Chancellor).
We would be remiss if we forgot to include the great love stories, such as Chris Brooks and Snapper Foster, Nikki Reed and Victor Newman, Neil Winters and Drucilla Barber, Christine "Cricket" Blair and Danny Romalotti, Victoria Newman and Ryan McNeil and the next generation, Daniel Romalotti and Lily Winters or maybe, Adrian Korbel and Colleen? Time will tell…
